Overview

An exciting new early literacy program is now available at both Timmins Public Library branches and the three local EarlyON centres.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a free self-paced program that encourages local families and caregivers to read 1000 books with their young children before they enter kindergarten.

The concept is simple, the rewards are priceless! Read a book (any book) to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler. The key is perseverance. Make it part of your daily routine to read to your child. Reading together is fun and will create life-long memories for both of you.

It’s Easy!

If you read just 1 book a night, you will read 365 books in a year. That is 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in three years. If you consider that most children start kindergarten at around 5 years of age, you have more time than you think. Plus, if you read just 10 stories a week for two years, that is 1,040 stories. Reading 1000 is a challenge but an achievable goal!
